MAKING A STATEMENT IN FASHION…GOING BEYOND GRAPHIC T’S

Of the many shows, presentations, and performances I attended during Fashion Week 2012, the one that I will remember the most is THE GREEN SHOWS PRESENTS AUTUMN WINTER 2012 READY TO WEAR BY CONTEMPORARY ETHICAL DESIGNERS THE BOX’ AT MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK, LINCOLN CENTER NY FEBRUARY 10TH 2012.

Artists & Revolutionaries by John Michael Schlotter

United Bamboo by Aoki and Thuy Pham

Featured, collections from eight designers who are making a statement by comitting to an ethical manufacturing criteria to preserve natural resources and environments. Two collections I anticipate the release of are Artists & Revolutionaries and United Bamboo. John Michael Schlotter, designer of Artists & Revolutionaries utilizes repurposed leather, cashmere, and organic cottons. This up-cycled brand, known for its use of sustainable materials is based in Brooklyn, New York. Designers Miho Aoki and Thuy Pham of United Bamboo take a real artistic approach to fashion incorporating music, art, and media ‘current-s’ into their collection. Aoki and Pham reinvent traditional designs while manufacturing goods locally.
